JH 8.18 working on Playing-(around) #18.JPG

“I make multilayered, color oriented nonobjective paintings. My process is a joyful meditation. Influences include light on water, sunsets and sunrises, 1960s-70s geometric color system painting, Amish and Gee’s Bend Quilts and various indigenous Australian artists. Warren Rohrer, Brice Marden, Jasper Johns, James Turrell and Robert Irwin are among the American artists I admire. My goal is to honor all the important work of those who have gone before and be aware of the current world situation, then empty my mind and create images that are both stimulating and contemplative.”
