Spin (2025-)

The Spin paintings are an attempt to react to the decisions and actions of the current administration. Lies and half-truths, valued institutions under attack, cruelty to government employees and immigrants, disregard for both the rule of law and free elections threaten democracy and the American way of life.

How we react may determine whether we live freely or under authoritarianism.

“Democracy in the crosshairs” became part of my pictorial conversation with “Crosshairs,” 2024 and continued through the “Mirino” paintings, while remaining part of the Breath series. The Spin drawings and installation were a reaction to the 47th president’s lies and flurry of executive orders upon inauguration. “Rotator,” 2025 breaks with the inhale/exhale grid configuration I’ve used since 2022 and in “Fault Lines,” no horizontal or vertical lines exist, producing a more chaotic, spinning energy.

Despite my personal feelings about our current situation, my intention is to create works that are positive and speak to the best we can be when we work for the greater good and follow the rule of law.
